Google Bard Set for Rebranding to Gemini, Alongside Android App Launch

According to a recent report, Google Bard is poised for a significant transformation, including a new name and the introduction of an Android app. The disclosure comes from a screenshot shared by a tipster, revealing Bard’s changelog dated February 7, which outlines several major announcements concerning the AI chatbot. Chief among them is the rebranding of Bard to Gemini, emphasizing the name of the foundational model that drives the chatbot. Additionally, the leak unveils the long-awaited introduction of the paid Advanced tier and the debut of a new Android app.

Tipster Dylan Roussel shared the screenshot, purportedly displaying various announcements by Google, discovered within Bard’s web interface. Regarding the rebranding, the changelog reportedly stated, “We’re committed to giving everyone direct access to Google AI, and, as of this week, every Gemini user across our supported countries and languages has access to Google’s best family of AI models. To better reflect this commitment, we’ve renamed Bard to Gemini.”

This aligns with an earlier report by 9to5Google, which noted that all references to Bard in the latest Google app beta version have been replaced with Gemini. If the latest leak holds true, this change extends beyond the mobile app to encompass the entire product. However, it’s essential to acknowledge that we haven’t independently verified this information.

In addition to the rebranding, the leaked changelog also unveiled the introduction of Gemini Advanced, previously referred to as Google Bard Advanced. This paid version of the chatbot, powered by Google’s most potent foundational model, Gemini Ultra, promises to deliver advanced capabilities. At launch, Ultra 1.0 will drive the Advanced tier, enabling users to perform highly complex tasks such as coding, logical reasoning, following nuanced instructions, and creative collaboration. The Gemini Ultra-powered chatbot is also set to receive exclusive features and expanded multimodal capabilities.

Furthermore, the changelog announced the launch of a new Android app integrated with all Google apps, allowing users to interact with it via text, voice, or images. Named Gemini app, it will initially be exclusive to Android, with iOS users having the option to access Gemini through the Google app.

Recently, Google Bard underwent a significant update, introducing an AI image generator to the chatbot. To distinguish AI-generated images, Google incorporated the DeepMind-developed SynthID, which embeds an imperceptible digital watermark. Additionally, the tech giant expanded Google Bard’s availability to over 230 countries and territories, with support for more than 40 languages.
