Apple Vision Pro Passcode Issue Causes Customer Frustration

Customers who recently purchased Apple’s new Vision Pro headset are encountering a significant inconvenience if they forget their passcode. Apple is instructing users who are locked out of their devices due to a forgotten passcode to either visit a store or mail the device to AppleCare customer support for resolution. Once received, Apple will erase and reset the device, a process that could be cumbersome and time-consuming.

This passcode problem is among a few early customer-service challenges surrounding the $3,499 (approximately Rs. 2,90,000) Vision Pro headset, which was released last Friday. Users have also reported difficulties setting up Optic ID, an eye-scanning feature for device login, and navigating the built-in Apple Music app.

The frustration stems from the fact that if users enter their passcode incorrectly multiple times, the headset becomes disabled. If the passcode remains elusive after a waiting period, users must return the device to Apple for a reset, resulting in the loss of all data stored on the device.

This issue stands out as a quirk not present in other Apple products. For instance, the company’s smartwatch offers a mechanism for passcode reset without requiring the device to be sent back.

While it’s possible that Apple may introduce software updates in the future to address this issue, the company has not yet provided any official comment on the matter.

On Apple’s community forum, users have shared their frustrations, with one customer recounting their conversation with a support agent inundated with calls about the passcode problem. The lack of a USB-C port for troubleshooting further complicates matters, as the Vision Pro does not have the option to connect to a Mac directly. While Apple released a special strap last week to facilitate connection to a Mac for developers, this accessory is not intended for general consumers and comes with an additional cost.

Despite these challenges, the Vision Pro has attracted interest from consumers, with many visiting Apple stores to experience the product firsthand. Reviews have generally been positive, highlighting the device’s immersive video playback and productivity features. However, the passcode issue remains a notable concern for early adopters.
