Google Releases February Update for Pixel Smartphones

Google has commenced the rollout of the Android 14 monthly update for eligible smartphone models, spanning from the Pixel 5a to the Pixel 8 Pro. Additionally, the February update will also be available for the Pixel Tablet and Pixel Fold, marking the first Pixel-branded tablet and foldable phone from Google. Alongside a few bug fixes, the latest monthly update addresses several flaws affecting the company’s handsets. Notably, Google recently introduced new software features on its latest Pixel 8 series smartphones.

According to the company’s release notes published on Monday, the February Pixel update includes general improvements for camera system stability and performance on the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. Additionally, it addresses an issue where the screens of these phones may appear corrupted in certain scenarios. Users experiencing Wi-Fi stability and performance issues are also advised to update to the latest version.

Google has also resolved issues with the Android system framework that impacted stability or performance with third-party apps on several Pixel models, including the Pixel 5a, Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel 8, and Pixel 8 Pro. Furthermore, issues with the outer display of the Pixel Fold have been addressed with the February update.

Regarding security, Google’s February Pixel update bulletin mentions the patching of a high-severity security vulnerability (CVE-2024-22012) affecting the bootloader, along with fixing five other security flaws related to Qualcomm components (audio), and one vulnerability affecting a closed-source Qualcomm component, all classified as having moderate severity.

To download and install the update, owners of the Pixel 5a and newer models, or the Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet, can navigate to the Settings app, then tap on System > Software updates > System update. After installation and restarting the device, the phone will be safeguarded with the latest security patches. Google strongly advises all Pixel hardware owners to download and install the latest February Pixel update.
